Jonathan Hodge

I’m an arts professional and freelance writer based in Hong Kong.

I’ve done just about everything within the realm of performing arts over the last 20 years. I’ve worked on-stage and off, leading to senior roles in Arts Management.

I started as a self-producing artist with Catalyst Theatre Company in New Zealand. I worked as an actor, director and playwright. And I produced six plays for the company between 2008 and 2011.

I continued my producing journey with the Short+Sweet festival in Auckland in 2009. By 2012 it had doubled in size and become an annual fixture. The festival had over 200 participants to manage and presented over 40 short plays in two weeks.

In 2013 I started work for NZ Opera (the national company of New Zealand) as the Company Manager. I ran the company’s logistics for 9 operas before I moved on.

Most recently, I worked as the Artistic Manager at The House of Dancing Water. Based in the Macau SAR, this was one of the largest circus shows in the world. I worked with the Artistic Director to manage the Artistic Division. This was a wide-ranging role, including budget building and strategic planning. I managed human resources and administration for a team of 130+ staff.

I was also an Associate Producer for the 2022 EPIC performing arts conference which is an amazing place to learn new skills and ideas. While the 2022 event has ended you can still access selected content at Theatre Art Life.
